Automatically optimize ad serving for my ads.

Is it better to turn off this flag?

I understand that if you have this checkbox checked adwords will try to determine which ad to show base on who has higher ctr.

What if you turn this off? other than everything will be shown equally is there any other adverse effects that people have encountered or observed?

I have it off on most of my ads. I prefer to see the real CTR for ads shown equally, that way I can tell if somethign isn't working or if it is. Also an ad that gets a good CTR, may not convert as well as one with a lesser CTR, but Google wouldn't show that one much since it doesn't make them as much money. The flag is basically an optimization to get the most money from you in the least amount of time. plus, it can be very agressive. I have seen ad that get shoved to less than 10% showings with a CTR less than a percent below the top ad. Not good if you are experimenting with new ad copy.
