There are certain keyword combinations I would like to test for content sites that I don't think would work very well on Google or the search network. I'm sure there are some at the Plex that don't want to allow content only advertising for obvious reasons. However, we are not current using any content advertising and would like to test it, by itself, without the search terms showing up on Google search.
Google and the search network are almost the same in results for us. However, content is not and until we can figure out some kind of way to reach that audience, it's hard to see how we are ever going to turn it back on. Thanks for listening.
We have also tried content and during our low season we find it an effective way to increase referrals to our sites. In high season it's just unnecessary.
One of the big things that I have been noticing about the ads showing up on our sites is how many are NOT clear enough to allow the user to make a decision. This results in many unnecessary clicks which affects ROI.
As an example we are located in a specific area and our sites are geared to that area. We have pages of information about sports activities and accommodations in these areas. Many of the ads that show up are just "Joe's Lodge" or "scuba holidays at Benny's" rather than "Joe's Lodge in Atlanta" or "scuba holidays in Atlanta".
When we create our ads many times we are only thinking of search not content.
In search the user searches for "scuba Atlanta" and the ad pops up. It doesn't matter if it says "scuba holidays at Benny's" because we know the searcher is looking for something in Atlanta.
Not in content. Your ads could show up anywhere so make them specific. If you are located in Atlanta put it in the ad. We are located in South America and some of the ads showing up are so vague that the user would assume that they are located in our area. Great for my AdSense results but terrible ROI for the AdWords advertiser.
Spend some time on those ads and your ROI will increase.
