Hi

Im new to adwords, but have managed to get a top position on my main keywords at a reasonable rate.

It took some time to get this position by initially bidding high prices just to get the click through required to then be able to reduce my CPC and stay high.

I need to pause my campaigns during the holiday period but im worried that when I Un-Pause them i will have lost my good position due to no click throughs...

What happens during a paused campaign? Will it just return to the same clickthrough based rank that it was before the pause?

Anyone have the answer to this?
Thanks
Dave

davejs, I hope that others will post with more detail, based on their personal experiences - but in the meantime, I have a few thoughts:

There is nothing inherent in the act of pausing that will cause a change, in and of itself.

However, while paused, a lot can happen out there in the world of your active competitors. And the longer you're paused, the more time there is for new competitors to start AdWords, and for existing competitors to improve their ad copy, keyword selections, etc - and therefore their positioning.

So, if you were to remain paused for an entire holiday period (which could mean weeks, depending on the holiday period in question) I'd imagine that much could have changed. And, quite possibly, your position along with it - to a greater or lesser degree.

Just my $0.02.

Now, who has actual examples? ;)

While were on this subject.

Okay I need some major help(probably not just technical but that's another topic).

I joined CJ and Amazon. I love Amazon. I have sold 25 books. However the commission sucks. But the products sell very well. My problem is that I'm spending more than I am making. I don't have a website. Is that the key? I've been just using "text links" and keywords.

Does anyone want to share anything I can use?

I pause my campaigns very often: when my site is down, when I suspect fraud... also I have campaigns in 3 languages and when I start getting too many registrations from one language and less from another, I pause a campaign to "balance" things.

But I pause it not more than for 48 hours and never lost a position. And my ads are dating ads where competition is VERY tough!
