Does anything else trigger a review of your campaign...

...besides editing creatives?

I had server problems earlier this week, and paused my campaign. Everything was back up and running by Thursday, so I "unpaused" the campaign.

Since then, impressions have only been 50-70% of what I was seeing before I had to pause. It is exactly as if the campaign is on reduced delivery pending a review...

There's is rumored to be a "routine review" of all accounts after they've hit 'x' number of impressions, where 'x' is an unknown.

We've recently read of a few very scary scenarios where accounts were taken offline with zero notice for at least several days while the "review" was in progress.

For AWA to elaborate on the specifics of this process would help put to rest much wild speculation that is likely to ensue if a few more posts like yours and others start turning up. There's no reason for this to be yet another "secret" Google would be unwilling to share.

1) It's not like we're going to do some type of massive housekeeping if we knew the review was imminent.

2) Even if the "review" must be a surprise, why must the account be taken offline during the review? That certainly deserves a convincing explantion. After all, we are paying customers. The subsequent loss of revenue is patently unfair at the very least, all other issues aside.

3) Far more specifics are needed to be made readily advertiser to the advertiser as to what will pass muster and what will not. Again, it's in no one's interest to keep that vague also. The RTFM suggestion often proffered when the issue is raised does not suffice.

The "Help" rarely reflects the most recent changes to policy until well after they are in place and the written style of the "Help" is extremely vague when it attempts to outline proper guidelines. Some sections are analogous to legal statutes like "disorderly conduct" or "disturbing the peace" where they can be applied to anyone who offends some standard to which we are not made privy.

4) I'll be following up with more detailed posts on how despite my best efforts (valium or stiff drink) to dissuade myself from believing these "reviews" are a misguided war against affiliate advertising, it's hard to escape that conclusion.

5) To address your initial question directly: To the best of my knowledge, a large group of keywords are considered by Google to be "sensitive" and will automatically trigger a review of at least the AdGroup if it contains one or more from that list. Obviously, adult terms are on the list, but so are a surprising amount of terms that could be construed as having dual meanings in some contexts. So you never know....

Of course - i'd completely forgotten about the x thousand impressions and you get review malarky. I've not been using AdWords for a few months but recently started my account back up again for a new project - it's all coming back to me now!

Thanks!

I'm at 9.4 million impressions since Oct 2004 when I started with AdWords and either I've not had a review or it was fortunately uneventful.
