I just typed a keyword into the Google search bar and found three AdWords ads posted. It looks like someone is trying to get around the new affiliate rules. The first ad is from Amazon.com. The third has the display URL to be www.amazonbooks.com, and if I right click it, the destination is also www.amazonbooks.com. If I click on the ad, it get redirected to the item at amazon.com. I wonder how long Google will take to catch on to this.

Of course, having amazon as any part of a domain name is also against the amazon TOS.

It seems there are always these kinds of people in the system, trying to game it for a quick buck.

My advice to you would be to email both Google and Amazon and call this site to their attention. I'm sure the guy will be cease and desisted out of the website very quickly.

Explain? If one is going direct to merchant and is the winning bid for the merchant domain name, they have no choice but to use the merchant's domain name.

amazonbooks.com is registered to Amazon. You should take this up with Amazon.

Still, I can't help but wonder why with all the nonsense one puts up with on the 'net each day: from drive-by downloads, "donating" 20% of your AdWords spend to click frauders, phishing scams, spyware, stealware and on and on, some people are still bothered by affiliates trying to make an honest living.

If it's registered to amazon, why does the final product page have an associates ID as part of the URL?

Any affiliate ad going direct to Amazon has the Associate ID at the end. At least the most common format ends that way.
