One cent clicks still exist!

They're rare but real.

I was reviewing stats for a busy AdWords account and to my delight I spotted a search term that got two one-cent clicks yesterday.

It was a two-word phrase, modified broad match, quality score 10, uncommon but highly targeted. The stats show six impressions yesterday, and two clicks at 1¢ each.

The default bid for the ad group was 33¢ and our ad was the only one showing for the search, at least as seen from my location.

I wish I could get some of the busier searches to perform that well!

I recently saw a one-cent click for a mobile-device ad. I tried to disable mobile ads completely, but the best I could do is a -90% adjustment. For some weird unknown reason, the adwords system won't let me go below -90%. Since my desktop and tablet bid is $0.12, -90% reduces it to about 1.2 cents, so that explains the one-cent click.

I got another one cent click early this morning. But this wasn't a mobile device -- Adwords put it into the category of "tablets with full browsers". The log entry shows that it was an ipad. My bid for tablets is $0.12, and usually the charge is at least $.05. But for some reason this one got through at $.01
