What should my destination page be?

I'll soon get my first AdSense check, and I'm thinking I'll roll it back into PPC ads. I've never advertised, and my first site would be a loser, as it's a magnet for low-paying ads.

But my second site has more potential, so I'll promote that one.

So here's the question: Should my ad promote "Quality widgets for sale", and point to my catalog page (all AM stuff), or should I say "Information about widgets", and point to my content.

The first option appeals to me, because it draws people who are shopping for widgets. With my budget, I'm not sure I want to pay for traffic to my content, which might not result in sales. The goal is to buy sales, not to buy non-paying traffic.

So, do you point your adwords ads to your sales page, or your content?

If your intent is to sell something, which page gives the best pitch?

The content page or the sale page?

Where do people enter your site that make the most conversions to sales?

Statistics is the name of this game.

Both.

Split Test [webmasterworld.com] both content and sales pages and then measure the results.

Sometimes (and this is why we measure), we see a longer sales cycle with content pages, but better lifetime visitor values as they return not only for products, but for authority info.
