Am I on the right track?
Doing this I found some cheap keywords to target ( 5 cents a click ). How long do you track it before you make a decision on its success? 100 impressions, 1000 impressions?
thanks :)
The good thing about keywords in your log files is that they are phrases that are obviously relevant to your site. If you can find words there that are inexpensive and can drive targeted traffic to pages that convert, you have a winner. You’ll want to experiment with more than just that, however, because a drawback to only using words from your log files is that you could be missing other high-converting words for which you aren’t currently well-optimized.

There really is no set number of clicks that you can use to judge success. Some keywords can receive thousands of impressions in a day. Some won’t ever even get a hundred. Perhaps you could determine a set amount you’re willing to spend before judging success (based on CTR, conversions, ROI, etc.), or maybe setting a time-frame (one day, one week, one month, etc.).
