Set up a new campaign midweek specifically targeting Australia only. Okay, kw's are specialist terms, but, blimey, it's oh so quiet!

Nearly three days and just 400 impressions from 97 kw's! Ads are up and running okay.

Several sets of kw's are pretty competitive (for this type of sector), so I'm not in isolation here. Anyone with any experience of using adwords in Aus?

Not sure about the 'down under' traffic aspect of your question, Syzygy, but when I saw the line quoted above, it made me want to say something that I'm sure you already know - which is:

The number of impression you get can be limited by your daily budget - so you may want to check that you are in the ball park of the recommended budget - or get rid of some of your less important keywords.

Also, if it was set up mid-week, I'd say there is a good chance you are not yet on partner networks. Once you are, I'll bet that traffic will pick up.

Thanks, AWA, but I doubled the recommended daily budget at the start. Budget is not the problem.

Certainly not on Content yet. Either way, three days and the results are astoundingly poor.

Sure you've got "Australia" in your country list, Suzy? :)

Yes, I'm in Sydney, and have been running AdWords campaigns for several years - since before Google opened a Sydney office.

Nearly three days and just 400 impressions from 97 kw's! Ads are up and running okay.

Without knowing your niche - that doesn't tell us enough - what CTR and what Conversion rate are you running with those numbers?

Are you targeting Australian/UK spelling or US spelling - colour or color - harbour or harbor?

Australians use slightly different phrases to mean slightly different things to the British or Americans - so you'd need to get the lingo right. For example - we wouldn't 'root' at a football match - we'd cheer....

Day four and under 500 impressions. CTR is 2.7% with conversions at just under 16%. Average position 4.5 out of eight ads. I'm targeting the medical sector so the market is niche - I just didn't anticipate how niche! UK and Australian English spelling is the same for the (medical) terms used.

Out of the 97 kw phrases only four or five have actually generated any impressions. Based on past experience I'd expected considerably more impressions with a good handful of kw's not getting any clicks - at least allowing me to narrow down the focus to those kw's that work. Don't appear to be getting any impressions in the first place!

Budget fine; nothing disabled and not under review. Ads still not showing on Content - I do hope that is going to make a difference.

I was obviously expecting a bigger impact but perhaps the market is just that much smaller than anticipated, even allowing for the specialised nature of the kw's and ad.

For example - we wouldn't 'root' at a football match - we'd cheer...

Likewise, here in the UK we'd be cheering ;-)

Only 20M people live in Australia, compared to approx 60M in the UK. Are you getting approx 1/3 of the UK traffic?

True.

This specific campaign is unique to Australia - I have nothing to compare it to. I guess my expectations are just unrealistic; but 125 impressions a day just feels so low and I'm very surprised that some of the kw's haven't even generated any impressions thus far.

Looks like I need to set my sights lower.

I run into the same thing when I make Canada specific campaigns. The lack of people compared to the US is underwhelming to say the least.

Just check to make sure it lines in numbers to population that you see with other countries.

LOL although i imagine you would get a cheer or two if you did root at a football match
