Google Adwords after Christmas

I'm not sure if this is a slightly dumb question but here goes.

Do people find that their conversion rate on Google Adwords drops dramatically after Christmas.

In the Christmas rush I was converting at about 7% but since Christmas it has dropped week on week this month from 3.5% to just 1.5%. Obviously you get a drop in conversion but by 5.5%, wow.

Do others find this the norm. The site I currently work on is magazine subscriptions. If that helps.

Overall, no I haven't noticed any extreme changes. I suppose anything that was highly "gift" related would obviously slow down since the holidays are over.

Have any new competitors entered into your circle? That sometimes can have a huge affect based on your ads, bid amounts, average CTR, etc.

robsp. Yes is this normal.

keywordguru. No if anything they have dropped away in terms of Adwords. Especially with the aff stuff that is going on at the moment.

I have not seen any of this in any of my 60 campaigns. Although business fluctuates, it never does so heavy for us as for you.

I would start digging into site logs etc to see if you can find out what may cause this. Like keywordguru I would suspect affiliate related stuff but if you are not an affiliate your business should actually go up (I know some of my accounts went North after the affiliates get banner)

Yes, my conversion is also lower - from about 10% in the run-up to Christmas to 5% now.

But I guess it's just the end of the purchase rush!
