How G is leaving money on the table

By NOT notifying you when you hit your daily budget.

Very few people are aware that when your budget is not enough to get you full delivery of your ad, G slows down serving your ad and it also increases your daily budget by a 10-20% to accommodate for more clicks. All of this without notifying you.

This came clear to me the day that I increased my bid on some keywords significantly and the number of click-troughs received dropped suddenly. I checked my account and everything seemed to be in order. I then decided to decrease my bid back to its original max cost and the number of leads jumped back up. I finally realized that I had hit my daily budget (and the extra 20% added by G – which made the problem less obvious to find) and G was not serving my ads at full delivery anymore.

Many companies will never discover this, particularly if they start with a small budget and keep increasing either the number of keywords and/or the bids.

G what does it take you to send an email notification?

PS: AWA – a bonus is due here – I just helped your company make a few more millions here – if you listen

Funny how some of the most brilliant ideas are profound in their simplicity.

Tell them you thought this one up AWA. (add voluntary functionality)

Good call Oetzi. You should definitely check up on that sort of thing though (especially if the ROI is good).

In March 2004 there was a wishlist for a forum member having an audience (grin) with some Google technology staff ([webmasterworld.com ])

Your idea was among the suggested feature requests.

Sorry to be a spoilsport.

Yeah...there are some great ideas in those threads if you can sift through them. Great idea anyhow (to you and the original conceiver;).

I cheated. Look at post #3 in the link above, and it becomes obvious why I remember it so well.

Thank you, stuntdubl.

Pmkpmk, I never read that thread. In any event, it is not who came up with the idea first that really matters, but who can sell it. Let’s see if they are buying it this time. And not even think about claiming my bonus :-)
