Here-to-for, I have always ran all campaigns on auto optimized.

Now I'd like to run one otherwise. Running without auto optimized, if you had multiple ads in an ad group ... they should all be served an equal (or near equal) number of times ... no matter if you have 2 or a 102. Isn't that correct?

My non optimized campaign has only been going half a day, but so far it doesn't seem that all the ads in an ad group are seeing equal exposure.

It wouldn't matter how many ads you had per ad group would it? I have about 20 to 25 identical ads taking visitors to that many different pages. Since the ads are indentical, you would expect near identical ctr. I'm not seeing that either, plus some of the ads aren't shown at all.

What is the date range you're looking at?

First make sure that the date range includes only the day where the optimization has been off the entire time (i.e. if you turned it off yesterday, then part of yesterday the optimizer was on).

You should then start to see equal exposure of your ads, however, if you have a lot of ads in one group, it's possible for a couple to be shown just a bit more than the others, it usually evens out over time.

The only time the above is not true is when you're doing a lot of affiliate advertising. If you are testing ads that go to a merchant and to your own landing page, the ads that go to your landing page will probably been shown more often because of the 'pre auction' for your merchant landing page ads (i.e. if you lose that auction, your ad won't be shown).
