When I signed up for AdWords I chose to pay in US currency, but when I said I was in Canada it automatically switched me to Canadian dollars.
Now instead of paying 5 cents US (6 cents Canadian at current rates) I'm paying 8 cents Canadian.
2 cents might not sound like a lot but it sure adds up. For example, today already it would have made a $10 difference. Multiply that by 30 days in a month, and that's about $300.
Anyone know of a way to switch your account currency, or has anyone got a clue as to if they plan on adjusting their rates?
I might be in Canada but I advertise in the US - But an american advertiser would autmatically have a one up on me because they can get more ads for their buck. If 8 cents Canadian was based on an exchange rate a year ago, things have changed and it's no longer even.
Maybe a once or twice a year revision of the cost per click to bring it closer in-sync?
So 5 US$ct against 5 euro cent will put the euro on top. Having your account in dollars helps if you are the only bidder and hence pay the minimum of 5 US$ct which is lower than anywhere else.
While Google may calculate the adwords exchange rates daily, for advertisers the important things are the actual exchange rates on:
1) the day you pay google
and
2) the day you get paid
So the risk/rewards of using multiple currency can really depend on how fast exchange rates change.
