Is There A Good Primer on Best Practices

Hi everyone:

I admit it; my Adwords campaigns suck...

Is there a good primer on best practices for beginners for getting the most our of your Adwords campaigns?

Maybe even something like a "Top 10 Things NOT To Do In Google Adwords"

I know that is what this forum attempts to be, but I was hoping for something nice and simple on one page.

my point is, imo, a top 10 list won't suffice.

Same question here. I was looking at different books, but they all seem to be written at least a year ago, and from what I see Adwords changes every week or so... So I'm not sure where to go just to get some decent background info.

There is no simple one size fits all answer as Rhino says. There are some general guidelines and principles but it's not an exact science. While Paul thinks Adwords changes every week, a bit of an exaggeration but they do improve the system bit by bit, the principles of advertising are the same today as when Adwords started years ago.

It's worth working through the tutorials for the AdWords certification, even if you decide not to take the exam.

i concur with that, G's tutorials are an excellent source.

their UK gang seems to put on some great webinars as well, watch for them to be announced on the adwords blog.

but...
there's driving school where you learn the details.
and then there's getting out onto the track and seeing what works.
problem there is that each track is different.

There are some best practices examples that every AdWords advertiser should follow. But that's pretty much where it ends. It depends on a number of factors. What's your quality score avg, avg. CPC and CTR?

Get the books by andrew goodman and perry marshall. Old, but good primers.

Then buy the book by Brad Geddes. He also has a huge series of videos you can watch online for a couple hundred bucks - excellent resources (probably amongst the best, if not the best).
