How long has this been going on?

Just did a search for sonicwall support warrington and got this:

Yes this has been going on for years. I have always thought that it gives an unfair advantage to advertisers using Checkout as the relatively large multi-colored ads draw attention to the ad over all of the others.

I'd love to seem some stats on this, but I would think that CTR would be higher with these then those without them, regardless of position on the page as visitors eyes are drawn to them.

we have found that it actually lowers our CTR in much the same way that including a price in the ad does.

limoshawn, that is interesting. Does Google give you the option of including the image, or is it just automatically included if you use Checkout?

there's no way that i know of to manage it in the adwords interface. in the google checkout interface you link or unlink adwords accounts and that's what we use for an on/off switch.
