Separate campaign and ads for company name?

Is it worth it?

I just read an article that advocates buying your brand name in ppc ads. My company is a wholesale distributor of commodity goods and I have 8 different campaigns based on types of products and hundreds of keywords in several ads in each campaign. My company name is in the URL that shows up. Is it worth it to set up a separate campaign with ads where the keywords are various permutations of our name and then land them on our homepage? My web statistics show that my company name (and its variations) show up high on the list of search terms used to find our site.

What do you get if you do a search for your company name? If you (and/or links to you) are at the top of the list then I probably wouldn't bother, especially if there aren't any other PPC ads for those terms. If there are other PPC ads showing or if you company is low down the list then I'd definitely go for ads on the company name.

If you're getting lots of referrals in your logs on your company name then it suggests that people are able to find it ok and you probably don't need to pay to be found.

Good point Karmatar. I shoulda thought that one out more logically. Our URL comes up first under our company name search and there are no PPC ads. Guess I got a little nervous when I read that advice.

I agree that Karmatar has an excellent point. On the other hand, if you're still curious as to what might happen, then you can always find out for a really minimal investment in time and funds. ;)

(I talked to an advertiser, a while ago, who had a $0.15 daily budget, and was really tickled by the increase in traffic they had seen. So it's possible to experiment for not a lot of money.)

We do it all the time and it works great. One major reason for doing it is that there are usually a few different ways to spell your company name and only when spelled correctly Google will show the site in the SERP's.

If your site is called perfectwidgets.com you bet alot of users will look for "perfect widgets" and your site will not show up (unless you covered this with adwords).

Two more good points to consider. This is why I love this forum. I'm going to try it out - won't cost much and it's easy to track - thanks
