When Google puts its photo's of its affiliate products ads on the top of the page, there is typically 3 or 4 of them above the text ads. Yet the reports say avg. pos. 2.3 for example. this seems misleading to me. what do others think?

Those are not affiliate products nor are they paid advertisements. They are product search listings. If you want to, you can add yours there as well.

Does not Google get some sort of monetary compensation if you click a Google products "AD" and then buy something. Sure they do. You can't try and tell me they don't get anything from that transaction. Google does not do ANYTHING that does not benefit them in some form or another.

It's a Google affiliate link and Google is the affiliate.

Call it what is.

Google does not get any form of monetary compensation for those product listings. What they hope is that you will view the product listings in more detail and then see their paid ads (your paid ads) alongside the free product listings.
