The Content Network can be a good source for traffic, but some products are not suitable for that specific traffic.

Maybe 'cause you "run into" the ads in the content network. The User was not specifically looking for you... He just found you...

What strategies could you recommend with the Content network?

Thanks!

Brad Geddes, aka eWhisper, a moderator for this forum, is probably the best resource on this topic. I would recommend looking through his posts on this site and looking at his blog bgtheory, where there is a category called "Contextual Advertising" that addresses the content network.

It is not necessarily that certain products are more effective, it's more that certain strategies need to be applied. In general, I think you want to use the content network for maximum exposure and brand building, so it is best to bid CPM.

There are some advantages with the content network.

Advantages
- you can target trademarks and competitor names more stealthy.
- long tail keywords that produce "low search volume" can still get impressions on the content network
- you can target human readable phrases more easily

Disadvantages
- broad scope phrases are ineffective
- negative keywords are very important
- lots of junk websites using ad sense
- increased chance of click fraud
