I'm getting nowhere with the keywords. Selected about 100 phrases and 90% of them were disapproved. So went into the term suggestion tool provided by Google, and genereated another 100.

But again, 90% of these were disapproved.

Why does the tool include phrases which are not going to be allowed anyway?

Stumped by this :-(

fom2001uk, before I take a stab at an answer to this question, I have one myself:

Do your really mean disapproved as opposed to disabled?

These are actually very different things, and happen for very different reasons. The answer to your question really depends on which of the two situations you are describing.

Thanks AWA, but I do mean disapproved. Appreciate your input.

Interesting. Disapproved keywords are really quite rare.

Below is a scenario in which a lot of keywords might be disapproved.

Imagine an ad with an adult theme. Now imagine that ad being submitted with a long list of keywords which, while related in some way, don't really speak to the adult theme at all.

I think it'll be clear that it is very important that folks searching on non-adult-themed keywords don't see adult-themed ads as a result. So the non-adult-themed keywords will be disapproved.

With all that said, it'd probably just be the best idea to reply to the disapproval email you will have received, and ask for more details, and/or suggestions as to how to proceed, etc.

>>> Thanks AWA, but I do mean disapproved

And what was the reason given for disapproval? Trademark?

It would be better if Google keyword tool doesn't display the keywords that will be dispparoved anyway.

Google caught me out this way with suggestions: if you're using dynamic titles and the keywords in question are misspellings, these will be dissapproved.

This is a good point, vibgyor79, but it's not always as straightforward as that. For example, in the scenario I mentioned above, the keywords would be just fine in most circumstances.

And edit_g's point is a very good one. Trademarked keywords are often fine to use as keywords, but not OK in ad text.

diaspproved keywords - all of them from suggestion tool

I just thought of something else I'd like to add, which is that you'll find that this tool is not even called a suggestion tool anymore.

Really, the intent of the tool has never been to suggest keywords that one should use.

Rather, the intent is to provide a list of words that are related to the word the advertiser has entered, so that they may then make an informed choice about whether the words should be:

* Used in the keyword list

* Used as a negative keyword, to actually prevent the ad from showing

* Or simply ignored. ;)

Disapproval was down to the products on sale (alcoholic drinks). But this is not at all clear in the guidelines. I still see ads showing for some "hard alcohols".
