I tried re-submitting the ads, but that didn't help either.
Whats the way out of this?
Also, do we still have 'live chat support' option available?
Ads in quite a few of my ad groups have been 'pending for review' for over 5 days. [...]
There are a great many new and edited ads being submitted these days, SEMblahblah, and I do think that in many cases the review process is taking longer now than it has in the recent past.
Also, based on the date on which you have written, it sounds as if two of the five days were weekend days - during which manual reviews take place at a much reduced rate.
[...] Can't figure out what the issue is as the same ads have been long approved in other ad groups.
Given that there are a truly vast number of new and edited ads being submitted every day, the system does not 'take systemic note' of such nuances of a similar ad having been approved in the past in a different ad group in the same account. In other words, a similar ad will not necessarily be reviewed and approved any quicker than one that is entirely new.
[...] I tried re-submitting the ads, but that didn't help either.
This will actually have slowed the review process down. Here's why:
When you submit a new or edited ad, it goes to the end of the queue of ads to be reviewed. If, while it is in that queue (let's say just minutes away from being reviewed, to make the point) you decide to edit/submit it again, it does not retain it's place in the queue. Instead, it will always be sent, once again, to the very end of the queue.
All that said, I do hope your ads are reviewed and approved very shortly.

I found that ads targetted on different pages within my site were reviewed at different speeds. My original set targetted on the home page seemed to be pending forever but a subsequent ad that I deep linked was approved within 24 hours, ahead of the original set.
We've had ads approved in a matter of a few days and have a group of ads submitted on Sep 21st that is still "pending review".
Similar situation here. So far all we have been told is that they are in the queue, and ads are seen to in the order they are received. Yet some have been sitting there for months, while others are reviewed within a week.
My best guess is that they have been selected by an algorithm looking for ads that might break guidelines about to be implemented.
In my experience, I have found that if you give the ads at least seven days or more and only then phone in to see why they have not gone live, it tends to help things along.
The Google reps do not seem to have the ability to make them go live but something is happening behind the scenes.
