Frustrated with adwords too

frustrated with adwords too

I too am frustrated with adwords, I am a new business trying to promote my website and spent hours setting up the adword campaigns, doing research, etc. and I still get a low quality score on the ads.

I give up. I don't have the time to spend hours every day watching and rebidding to get a decent placement. I've adusted the ads several times yet they still have a low quality score and I can't get it to work.

And why, was the bid amount yesterday for a keyword $1.50 and today its $19.00?

I am a 20 veteran of marketing, graphic design and basic websites yet I can't get this system to work. I have a decent amount of knowledge on how systems work, and I can't imagine a true small business owner without that knowledge trying to make it function well for them.

No system should be this complex and hard to use. Its like google is saying, hey, pay me money, tell me what you think you should get for that money, and I'LL decide whether or not (usually not) I agree with you, and MAYBE I'll post your ad if I feel like it... Its like someone slapping you and then you have to pay them for it.

Thats just crazy and poor business on google's side. NOT happy.

If you have a QualityScore, whats the ads diagnostic tool saying? Is it because of keywords or LPQ? Also, what's your website?

I'm getting pretty sick and tired of the Quality score crap. Great content sites, no rhyme or reason get slapped. Thinner sites, get extremly low bids.

I've actually started budgeting more for Yahoo PPC and am seeing a promising trend. If it keeps trending that way, I'll just give my advertising dollars to Yahoo since Google doesn't seem to want it.

Their aluristic view of what quality is I guess is in the eyes of a PHD and not the real world.

When they lose a good majority of their advertisers and their bottom line starts dropping, maybe they will take off their rose colored quality glasses and step into reality.

Suzy,

Create a specific landing page. On that landing page replace the normal title with the title of the ad. Then replace the description with the copy from the ad. On the page surface write a paragraph that repeats your keywords in a creative way and wind through it the copy and title from the ad.

Try to stay to two or three word phrases they will be cheaper and more targeted than broad one word selections.

Also make that page fast loading, take off all unnecessary graphics or size them down.

The rest is links and organic position of the site that counts in the score, that is a whole other project.

Suzy, if you have no time to manage adwords maybe you could use an agency. They will charge you a percentage of your budget (average of 20% if the budget is under $5k/month in my country), but if they make your bids lower in the end they might save you money.

If this is all it takes, can you please explain to me why a site that has been around for several years, is #1 in the serps for any number of terms, has good quality inbound links, has great rich original content, has very targeted landing pages, but gets slapped with 10.00 bids while other sites that have not been around as long, don't have near as much content and have the landing pages and ads structured the same way get a QS of 10 and .01 bids.

I'm all ears.

Sure, sticky me your site and maybe I can see what's up.

Also send me an example of your ad.

Not that I know all but I might be able to figure it out.

Seems like idolw is looking for a client?

Is this something you know for sure? In my main industry we would pay over £12 for position one, we have a strong suspicion that the company at #1 is paying less than £6. We as a copmpany have been around much longer and have very targetted pages, but the fact of the matter is that customers are more likely to click on their site then ours, and always will, this isn't a problem with our site or service it's an issue of customer intent, and for that particular keyword the customers intent is better served by those sites.

Sometimes who has the best site isn't an indication of what customers want, and CTR is a huge contributor to QS and bid price.

Exactly, is your site wantable by the end user?

Are you stretching on the keywords? Straying away from the direct theme of the site?

If all that is true, then I'd look at the ads, keywords and organization.
