Are misspellings worth the effort in Adwords?

Typos in Adwords

I'm setting up my first campaign and am wondering about misspellings. I've done some research on some misspelt competitive terms and notice that ads are displaying and the correct terms are bolded in the ads. I guess that others are either bidding on the misspellings or broad match is catching the misspellings, working out what they are supposed to mean and then matching the ads accordingly.

If misspellings are worth the effort how should I set up my adgroups? In there own group or mixed in with the correct spellings.

And how far should I go with this? I found some code that generates typos one word at a time based on QWERTY key proximity - it does not generate misspelt compound terms. Are these worth chasing?

Any advice from the experienced would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

broad match works most of the time

it used to be worth bidding on misspellings

it still can be but broad match is easier and will pick up most of the mispellings

the only way id go to the trouble of dealing with misspellings is if i wasnt using broad match in the campaign

Right. Plus it's quite possible you'll run into QS problems with misspellings anyway.

I still have a few misspellings that are worth bidding on, but then again,it makes sense considering who many of my visitors are. Otherwise I rely on broad match.

If you use Yahoo, you definately don't need to worry about common mispellings as most of these are mapped to the correct keyword.

Thank you all for your sage advices.

I was hoping to steer clear of broad match until I found my feet.

Based on the responses here I'd say misspellings are probably not worth the effort and may indeed be a QS negative.

Agreed with everyone above, plus they convert much lower for me as well. Not worth the effort for me.
