Extremely different ad position when searching on different IPs

I'm optimizing an Adwords keyword so that it is placed at the middle or bottom of the right side of the SERP. For weeks though my partner sees the ad for the very same search term in position 2-3. How can that be possible?

geographic or language targeting might be showing you more ads.
