Google Analytics 404 Errors

I wrote about this a long ago. I called support and explained this long ago, too. I saw other people mentioning those 404 errors as well.

The question is:

Why some clients try to read Google Analytics file from our local site instead of from Google per path in the script?

What do you mean by "Google Analytics file"? You mean sitemap?

Google Analytics works in the way where a client (your site visitor) loads a file called "ga.js" from Google's server. The script is initiated from your site (page).

Anyhow, it looks like 404s are happening only when some kind of bots are visiting the site and (for some reason) try to load GA script.

the request you are getting is probably for "/google-analytics.com/ga.js", because it looks like a relative url for a javascript file and that's how it occurs in the google analytics code (less the leading slash).
