Campaigns for different websites under same account damaging?

This just occured to me -

I have several campaigns under the same account for different businesses of mine. Imagine I own a shoe shop and offer home mortgages under a different business.

Would Google penalise the whole account because of the disparate keywords in each campaign?

Thanks very much for your input.

Not for those reasons. But there is (I believe) an overall account quality score, so all your campaigns need to be doing well, regardless of niche.

netmeg is absolutely right. There is an overall account quality score as well as an adgroup, keyword, ad text, and landing page quality score. In addition, Google looks at historical keyword performance not just in your account and campaigns, but in general on their search engine. So if you happen to choose keywords that historically perform poorly in a certain niche, your overall account quality score along with campaign QS, adgroup QS and individual keyword QS will suffer.

For the above reasons it would make more sense to keep your different niches separate especially if they are completely different businesses with completely different websites. If not you risk a poor performing campaign dragging down a stronger performing one with it.

That said, I do it, and have maintained entirely different niches in the same accounts, for years and years. So it can be done.
