Hi Adwords people,

To those of you who place ads in Adwords, what advice would you give to publishers to increase their chances of success in attracting Adwords advertisers?

I did try Adwords to drive people to my site but only once and it was a total failure. I had no idea where my ads were appearing and no idea how to judge success. Some of you must be experts in this. And you must have some very specific criteria you use when giving your hard earned cash to Google. I'm looking from the perspective of making my sites more attractive to you, certainly not from the perspective of starting an Adwords campaign.

How do you judge ROI at a site level? How do you stop your ads appearing on dubious sites? Go on, spill the beans for us Adsensers.

hi
we block dubious sites and if they are breaking TOS we may report them to Google

we all calculate roi differantly on the content network
the key point however is that there is a positive roi
unless the campaign is for branding purposes only

if you want to make your sites more attractive
put your ads above the fold (preferably)
limit yourself to 3 ad units on a regular page
the fewer the ad units the better
dont use any popups or pop unders
never use more then 2 of the same ad unit
never stack any ads or put them side by side (in general)
it is acceptable however to have a leaderboard and a skyscraper side by side or stacked

when is said to limit to 3 ad units i was refering to all ads including non adsense

and when i said 2 of the same ad unit i was refering to size

additionally
no more then 2 text ad units
no more then 1 link unit
