Adwords mixing results from queries

showing ads from a previous search

I noticed last night that ads from a previous search were being displayed in my current search. You can see this by searching "red shoes" then "house plant." You'll see adwords results from "red shoes" mixed in with "house plant." I've also noticed it with some higher competition commercial searches. Wonder what that's doing to CTR...

That's weird! I replicated you searches, and saw ads for "shoe trees" and "red flowers" (not joking). What's going on?

They've been doing this for quite a while.

Didn't AdWords implement this about a year or so ago? It's pretty similar to using the recent searches to influence the current search results they just put in on the organic side.
