moving a k/w in the account?

I have an ad group which has 3-4 top performing k/ws (these k/ws get the maxm traffic in the entire account). Now Intend to restructure my ad groups and plan to move these k/ws into separate new ad groups where they'd have a more appropriate ad and the ad groups would then be tightly knit (thats how it ideally should be..rite?)

Now, I've heard that once u move a k/w from one position to another, it takes time to rebuild its quality, etc and my campaign could suffer during that period of time?

Is this true?
How do I go about getting things done in this case?

Yes it is true. Better way is to move the "bad" keywords away from the good ones.

There is some risk, yes, and therefore I would pause the existing keywords - and not delete them... but if the keywords will be structured in a superior way and they generate enough traffic to be judged shortly thereafter - I think you're better off in the long-term to move them... IMHO, keeping keywords in poorly structured groups out of fear may cap your downside, but it also caps your upside.

i won't be deleting those k/ws..i'd pause that ad group and post the new ones at the same time.
what if i just ad new ad groups having k/ws same/similar to the existing ones...in which case the impressions between the 2 would be shared..let it run for a while and as the newer k/ws gain quality, etc, pause the older ones? this sounds a little tedious though as i'm dealing it with a lot of k/ws.
anyways, is it worth it? if yes, wht is the best way to do so?

Expect to take a short-term loss, but if these terms aren't tightly related, you should make up for it by having them in their own groups, with ad copy designed specifically for each term.

In this type of setup, you'll also be able to test ad copy "better" b/c you might find that a new ad only performs better on two of the four words. If you had tested new ad copy with all 4 terms in the same ad group, you wouldn't be able to tell as easily.

If these terms are high enough volume, the hit you'll take will be very short term, and the reorganization should benefit you in the long term.

Also, I don't think it is the keywords that need to build up history, but the new ads that are created will. I thought I've heard/read that keyword QS is "remembered" account-wide. So if you add a term that you previously deleted with a "Poor" QS, it will be Poor when you re-add until it builds up history with a new ad... Could be mistaken?

If you are going to be changing ads you can move them into a new AdGroup. The keywords history moves with the keyword within the same account.

If you weren't changing the ads, they would be better staying where they are as the ads have history attached to them.
