Separate Ads for Each Keyword Group

Is this a good strategy to improve quality score?

I’m an AdWords newbie and just set up my first AdWords account. I created my first ad using Google’s sign-up wizard, and when it came to keyword selection, the wizard’s direction was to “Enter as many specific words or phrases as you like” and “Enter 20 or fewer keywords for best results.”

I had a peer take a look at my first attempt and he suggested a strategy I hadn’t thought of: use one keyword set per ad, and phrase match or exact match it to the ad’s headline. This is a strategy he uses to micromanage the quality score and increase quality clicks, since the headline of the ad will match the user’s keyword search.

My campaign is relatively small, with a max budget of $1,000 monthly, and my site is regionally specific. So it would not be too inconvenient for me set up multiple ads. Is anyone else using this strategy? Is it a good one?

it is the ideal strategy..its not like it costs u anything more...so the small budget, etc aren't relevant factors!
ideally you should have a very closely-knit ad group revolving around a specific theme so that you can write an ad very-very specific to that set of keywords. this would increase your ad group-ad relevancy highly and in turn increase your quality score.
this strategy is very effective and is a "must-do" in case of a content campaign.

Michellle- welcome to WebmasterWorld

It may seem obivious but is often overlooked; in addition to specifically crafted ad text for each group you should also select and test landing pages specific for each ad group. Landing page relevance will also increase your quality score, so make sure the keywords of the ad groups are closely related to content on their landing page.

Since you have a small campaign, and it will be convenient to follow this strategy, you should follow it. Only be sure that your keywords are very relevant. Usually ads which contain the keyword in the headline get high click through rates, so relevancy of your keywords to your business is very important, otherwise it might create low quality traffic.

Also you can look at the Dynamic Keyword Insertion functionality that Google provides but since your account is small and you are having 1 keyword in each ad group, it will not be necessary.

Thanks for the welcome and the validation of this strategy. I'm going to give it a shot.
