Google TV Ads, a flexible, all-digital system for easily and efficiently buying more accountable and measurable TV advertising. The program, which has been an invitation-only beta test since June 2007, is now available to all US-based advertisers.
Television is a great way to reach new customers who might not be familiar with your product or service. Research shows that 37% of online search users were prompted to perform a search as a result of exposure to television advertising.* Now, you can launch a national television ad campaign right from your existing AdWords account.
I've used SpotRunner, but suspect G will eventually outdo them in many ways.
One thing I like about SpotRunner is their stock ads that they lay down a templated, customized audio track for. Meant I could get my first TV ads produced for a very low cost, with very high quality and very little time expended. I wish G would do that kind of thing as well.

Yet another niche Google directly competes in...
But it could be good if the prices were lower for advertising and making video. It's hard to promote a blog or a forum (for example) on TV ads :).

Has anyone tried to advertise a forum on TV?

No, but I might give it a go if the price is right :)

Google's pricing will certainly not be lower than if you already had an ad and went directly to an ad buying agency or directly to the networks. Google will just make it easier, and take a cut for themselves while at it. Spotrunner is often charging double the going ad rate and Google print ads are often greatly inflated although I have gotten a few good deals there so if Google TV ads works like Google print ads i'd have to say it's fair, but let the advertiser beware...

This is HUGE, the whole game has changed. Well done Google for opening up a medium to the masses. Now just roll it out in Australia please.

How much does it cost for a 30 second spot on average?
I run a music site specific to a certain band. Sometimes they have shows on VH1 Classic about this band.
Would be cool to advertise my site when they run the shows about this band.

Or, anon, you could advertise in local markets in the week(s) leading up to the band's appearances on tour.
Just a thought (assuming they're touring or even still alive of course).
