URL is bigger than allowed display URL.

How can it possibly match the display URL.

My domain name has 45 characters. How can it possibly match the display URL which only allows for 35 characters?

I have not seen any discussion about this aspect.

Get a shorter domain name.

ThomasAJ, I'd suggest contacting the AdWords support team directly, letting them know the actual URL (which we can not discuss in this forum) and seeing if they can offer any specific suggestions that would still fall within the intent of the policy.

Will do AWA. I have held off doing so as am scared they will 'stuff up' my existing ads. Yes unfortunately they have history...often.

Plus the message from AdWords included the words "...without exception...".

Johu, thanks for your insight...

When I report fake display URLs, the form response I get usually includes:

exceptions to this policy are granted in limited situations where this agreement is not possible or would misrepresent the destination website

Also, the announcement on the AdWords blog [adwords.blogspot.com] said:

we have made the decision to no longer allow certain exceptions with regards to our display URL policy.
(emphasis added)

So they have decided to no longer allow certain exceptions, but they will still allow others.

Google is still not really enforcing the policy [webmasterworld.com], but you should contact them anyway as AWA suggested to make sure you get the okay (and keep a record of it).
