I'm not looking for simple answer because I know there is none. But what would be the best strategy in addition to good CTR, relevant keywords, $$ willing to spend etc.

thanks

Ad Rank = Quality Score * CPC Bid

To increase your ad's ranking you must increase either your Q-score or your Bid or both.

Kantro pretty much summed it up. Increasing Quality Score is the only variable you have missed out.

As an addendum, you can increase your quality score can be done by optimizing the content on your landing page to be more relevant to the keyword you're targeting. One good way to do this is to naturally insert those targeted keywords into the title tag of your page, although you don't want to crowd the space up there or plug in keyword after keyword so it looks bad.

The landing page is a factor in the quality score used to determine minimum bid, but it's not a factor in the quality score used for Ad Rank. So if your bids are at or close to your min bids or if your min bids are too high, then the landing page matters; if not, it doesn't (or rather, it is not supposed to).

"Your Quality Score (which is determined by your keyword's CTR, relevance of ad text, historical keyword performance, and other relevancy factors)..."

AdWords Learning Center contains all of the answers.

As QS add also
* loading time of landing page,
* the title of the ad, and the URL displayed are very relevant

Can you provide a definition for Quality Score please?

Since the last three posts are all on the same off-topic tangent, I'll add a fourth. And it's a long one.

Sorry for the what amounts to a 'pre-written response. However, I wanted you to have a bunch of info so you'll have a good background regarding quality based bidding, Quality Score, and Landing Page Quality -- and it's quickest to use the info below which was written previously. ;)

---------------------------------------------

Lots of information about this subject, the understanding of which is important to success with AdWords, is available within the AdWords Help Center and AdWords Learning Center.

Here are a few good places to start:

* Quality-Based Minimum Bids
[adwords.google.com...]

Excerpting from that page:

[...] Minimum prices are based on the quality and relevance of the keyword, its ad, and associated landing page. This minimum price is called a minimum cost-per-click bid (CPC bid). This pricing model favors higher quality ads by requiring lower minimum CPC bids for them to enter the auction. Lower quality ads require higher minimum CPC bids."

* What is a 'Quality Score' and how is it calculated?
[adwords.google.com...]

On the page linked-to below, you'll find some general guidelines regarding the creation of landing pages that could help improve your landing page quality score:

* Landing Page and Site Quality Guidelines:
[adwords.google.com...]

Also, please be aware that there are some types of websites that will simply be difficult to advertise affordably with AdWords - as discussed on this page from the AdWords Help Center:

* Are there any types of websites that merit low landing page quality scores?
[adwords.google.com...]

Finally, in case you might wish to take a truly deeper dive into the subjects of quality-based minimum bids, quality score, landing page quality and so forth you, will find literally dozens of pages of information, starting with the four links found on this page:

* Ad Quality and Performance

Dear AdWordsAdvisor ok, all you wrote is true BUT according to many empirical tests done for different campaigns in different businesses * the keyword in the group,
* the keyword in the ad (title + URL)
* the keyword in the landing page are VERY relevant.

About quality of landing page Google is increasing controls with its staff, BUT for us the most important factor is the exact presence of the keyword, repeated on the top of the visibile HTML code + HTML title and description (not stuffing of course).

Again i repeat: all based on empirical tests.
