Can pausing a campaign for a day hurt QS/position?

Hello

My site is currently down for reasons beyond my control and I expect it to be down for at least the next 12 hours. I am afraid to pause my adwords campaign thinking it may negatively effect my positioning and quality score even slightly. Or more importnatly do I NEED to pause the campagin as google will be sending people to a 404 page which I am sure will hurt QS. Am I being paranoid? It will only cost me about $50 to keep it running for the day and in the long run that is worth being where I am in the results.

Thanks

I have many ad groups that I pause and resume from time to time, and I've not seen any negative effects because of that.

Yes, you should pause your campaign while your site is down because there is no point in paying for clicks if all the visitors (including the AdsBot, if it happens to visit during the downtime) will see is a 404 page.

I paused a campain for about 2 weeks when google offered to "optimize" it for me. After the "optimization" the new campain they created was getting 4 clicks a day instead of the 400 that i normally get. So, I stopped the "optimized" account and turned back on the old one with no negative results.

I doubt you will have any problems.

I pause them all the time it is a natural thing to do. Sometimes the real late type traffic is not to desired by our company so I pause the ads in the evening and weekends been doing it for years.

this is your business handle it as such and don't worry about Google they understand that somethimes you need to cut back on the spend.

The unofficial word from Google is that pausing keywords, accounts, etc does not affect your quality score.

However, you may see CPCs change when you resume if new competition has entered or left the marketplace. For a few hours, you shouldn't notice anything. However, if you are paused for months, you'll probably see a difference.

It is truly excellent to see you back eWhisper!

I guess this means I will never equal (let alone exceed) your post count, though. Not that I'm counting. ;)

my experience is actually interesting... I have a couple of keywords paused for some maintenance when the last google slap hit... and when we turn those on they are not affected.. however I don't know how long that's gonna be true... we haven't really put up a system that will track such behavior.. maybe we should.
