I've just discovered that if I change the destination URL for a keyword or ad group, AdWords throws away the old destination URL in its reports. In other words, if I changed the destination URL yesterday, and today run a report on the last 30 days of URL performance (daily stats), there's no mention of the old destination URL for the activity that happened before yesterday. All of that old activity is displayed as if the destination URL has been the new one all along.

This is crazy.

I guess I could just download a new daily report every day, export it to Excel and keep adding to it daily, but that's a pain.

Is there a way to get my history of destination URLs back, in the stats?

No. But, that's true with bid and status changes, as well. If you adjust your max bid, pause/resume a keyword, or your keyword fluctuates in and out of Inactive for Search status - none of these events are represented in a historic report. All you'd see is the current max bid and current status.

The only way to record this information and how it may have changed over time is to log each change (in some form) or to automatically download a daily snapshot.

AdWords reports are wrong

Well, that's a subjective statement - but, the reports have always worked in this manner.

Heh, how about "Ad Reports are misleading; don't believe the information associated with past dates for most report columns?"

Yes we are now downloading and appending daily snapshots to a master. What a pain.

Fair enough ;)

I agree it's a pain - but it's really great data that your competitors are less likely to have. It's also cool to see how fluctuations in metrics like minimum bid changes over time...
