I'm advertising for a client in the US. The competition is this vertical is just too much with results showing upto the 3rd page. The only way I thought I could crack the competition is by going 'Long tail'. Got a wealth of knowledge from my search queries, built an exhaustive list of long tail keywords & bid on them.

I waited with bated breath for the results. But lo & behold, nothing really worked. The competitors were bidding on the broad matches of all the relevant keywords, hence still ranking higher than me.So, of what use is the long tail to me?

PLEASE HELP!

So, of what use is the long tail to me?

The long tail is incredibly valuable - but, it's more than just identifying these keywords. It's also being able to effectively exploit the customization that these specific keywords can offer. If competitors are relying on broad matched keywords, you can have a tremendous advantage! You should think about customizing both your ad text and your destination page - which should both speak heavily to the detail that sets you apart from your competitor's broad offering.

Also, keep in mind that 'long tail' keywords can take some time to build up steam, so be patient. They may not get much traffic initially - but their conversion potential is very strong - and long-lasting.

Good luck!
