Capitalizing URLs

I have read that capitalizing certain letters in URLs can improve clickthrough.

e.g. www.LowCostWidgets.com

Anyone have stats on how successful this is? Is it really better or a myth!

If your domain name relvant, then capitalising words will make it easier to read, thus getting some more keywords into your ad.

ie www.CarRentalWidgetLand.com is jumps out more than www.carrentalwidgetland.com

Yes, I agree with you on that. But when it comes to measuring clickthroughs, there is only one way to be sure and that is to look at the stats.

Quite often I think I have a winning headline and it ends up with poorer clickthroughs than my control. Common sense does not always prevail.

Just wondered if anyone had stats on it and what difference in clickthrough they had.

I don't have any hard stats, but if I remember correctly from a discussion I had a fair time ago, then it would depend on the orientation of the ad, and the competition it was facing.

Ie, if you were at number 3 in the list, but had more keywords standing out, then when the user scanned the list he would spot yours first (because it stood out more than the two above). That's the theory anyway.

This depends on the ad and situation. That's why you make several ads and test them all out.

I've made ads that for one company MyWidgetStore.com increased CTR a little, and other times where it did nothing (however, it rarely lowers CTR).

The point I think many people miss is the /Folder option:
MyWidgetStore.com implies you sell lots of widgets.
MyStore.com/Widgets implies you sell lots of things, but you're taking them to the widget page.

If someone is looking for a speciality store that only sells widgets, the folder option can actually have a negative impact on CTR. If someone is looking for a site that has a large variety of widgets, then /Widget can improve CTRs.

The solution: test several ads for both conversion rates and CTR to find the best combination for you.

Also, make sure to look at the difference between www.MyWidgetStore.com and MyWidgetStore.com. If it's a long domain name, I prefer to leave out the www.

But what effect do subdomains have on stats e.g. sub1.MyWidgetStore.com and sub2.MyWidgetStore.com?

From my own tests, ditto what eWhisper said.
