Hi... I'm relatively new to Google Adwords and I have been asked by my company to get an ad onto Adwords.

I'm quite confused about which keywords to use because i'm not 100% sure which influence each keyword has on an ad, e.g. Click-through-rate VS Competition? Which influence is more important?

Please help

the best way to go about is sign up for an adword account, and follow the steps provided by adwords.

if you provide adwords with your site url, it will suggest a number of keywords which Google thinks are relevant for your site. Don't worry about competition at this stage, relevance is much more important.

Your weblogs will also tell you the keywords people use when they search for your site or products on google. In time, you should load these keywords into adwords too.

It sounds as if at this stage you just want something to show your manager so don't over-engineer it. Start small, get a feel for the system, look at the reports and expand when you feel more comfortable.

good luck.

Thank you very much for your reply... Your response helps a lot :)

I shall do just that.

Another quick question please: Do you perhaps know the domain for Google in Georgia?

Thanx for the help, I appreciate it

Hello MattyG, and welcome to WebmasterWorld. ;)

In addition to the suggestions already made, I'd suggest taking a look at the info on the page linked-to below. It'll give you a good overview of how to set up an AdWords account for success, by first understanding - and then meeting - the needs & expectations of your potential customers.

Tips for success:
[adwords.google.com...]

The basic principles covered on that page are as follows:

1. Identify your advertising goals.
2. Organize your account for maximum effectiveness.
3. Choose relevant keywords and placements.
4. Create straightforward, targeted ads.
5. Optimize your website for conversions.
6. Track your account performance.
7. Test and modify your campaigns to get the results you want.

...and above all of this, start with exact match only, be sure about that. Later, go into phrases, and after that maybe broad.

All of these are useful, but only if under your control.

What Georgia you are referring to?
