Hello

While counting a page view as an AdWords conversion is straight forward, I am intersted in counting as a conversion the download of a piece of software (or a link click). Can anyone suggest some code or other method I might be able to use to achieve this?

You could integrate a product such as Google Analytics into your site to measure various conversion points, where traffic is coming from etc - this will cover the basics pretty well (and for free!)

No. I need the clicks to be counted a AdWords conversions, not just a Analytics goals.

If you tag all of your AdWords keywords for Google Analytics separately (so that you can identify SEM vs organic as two separate sources) using the "utm_source=..." structure, this will allow you to see what is converting specifically from AdWords etc.

Well, I guess I could do that. But if there was some way to register an AdWords conversion when a link is clicked, then that would be much neater.

Can you create a page that essentially says "Congratulations, you've successfully downloaded / installed Software X" and on that page, place the conversion tracking snippet?
