Currently, I am using {KeyWord:bckup} for my Headline. This puts the search term in the headline.

However, if the search term is too long, my Headline ends up as bckup. :(

How can I change this so that if search terms are too long, it shows an alternative headline?

Jon

Make sure that "backup" actually says something that pertains to the adgroup. Like {KeyWord:Quality Widgets}

I don't know what you mean! I don't use "Backup". I use {KeyWord:bckup}. Is there a difference?

Jon,

The text that you put behind the KeyWord: in your case bckup, is literally used when the keyword is too long. So just replace the bckup with more meaningfull text (like Quality Widgets)

Just give it a try.

Put your alternative headline in place of "bckup" in your mentioned title but make sure the headline is not too long.

I am still a little puzzled...

My intention is to display the search term as my headline. If the search term is a long one, then I would like to display an alternative headline.

If I just replace bckup with a static headline, I cannot achieve that. Can I?

Yes you can, just make sure the backup text does not exceed the 25 characters and you are all set.

Example {KeyWord:Very large yellow widgets}

just fits and shows the text:
Very Large Yellow Widgets

when your keyword is longer than 25 chars.

Just try it and you'll see.

Good luck

So do I put the following into my Headline field?

{KeyWord:bckup}{KeyWord:Very large yellow widgets}

No just put

{KeyWord:Very large yellow widgets}

in the headline field. The bckup does not do anything, it is just an example.

Oh! I got it now! I thought it was the syntax. Thanks!

You are welcome. Make sure you check whether your competition uses dynamic titles as well. If they (all) do you may be better off with a, well chosen, static title.

Good luck.

Is the syntax for dynamic titles only available to certain AdWords accounts? I can't find anything about it on the help pages in AdWords.
