On Overture I can see what the bids are and how many searches have been done for specific keywords, before I even decide to put an ad together. Is there a place I can do the same on AdWords? I'd like to do all my keyword research before creating the campaign. I've got wordtracker, but I'm interested in Google searches specifically. Or is there anywhere on Google to find out how often a keyword was searched?

Welcome to WebmasterWorld!

I'm not familiar with anything that gives out that data about Google (except your own log files...but then, that's only for you :) )

You can try finding other open log files in your niche...that will give you some clues.

[adwords.google.com...]

or set up an account and it shows you projected impressions/click throughs etc etc.

Or find a really nice Google rep (loads around here) and ask for an inventory report, assuming you are going to spend lots of $$$s on Premium Listings.

From past experience Google traffic is averaging 200% of Overture figures (dependant naturally on industry) but this is a close guide to work on.

Thank you guys for your help. This is what's bothering me...you can't get those figures until you are actually creating the ad. And they're only estimates, not historic data. I've also read that if you up Overture by 20%, that's where the hits should be...200% or 20%? And is there any significance to Bid Amount from Overture?

I say double of Overture, so that is +100% (I am losing it today, i know)

The problem with the Overture tool is that you never know what % of those searches are SEOs, PPC managers or competitors.

there again you dont know that with Google either :(

best of luck.
