Keyword match type evaluation

Dear all,

My first ever post here, so hello to you all.

Ok, I have been running a fairly mediocre adwords campaign on and off for about 6 months now. I've now put the stoppers on it as a brand new website is in development. I'm now planning the new adwords campaign, which I hope will be more successful owing to a better site with more relevant unique content, landing pages etc.

I would like to ascertain which of the three keyword match types is the best one to go for in terms of quality score, CTR and price. I know that the only way to find out is to test them, but is there a way I can run each of the match types concurrently in an adgroup so that my assessment can be made on a fixed time period? For example, if my keyword is Green Grass, could I run Green Grass, "Green Grass" and [Green Grass] at the same time to identify which is the most suitable?

On a slightly different matter, as I have been running a less-than-average campaign for a while, will this be detrimental to the success of future campaigns though this account?

My ultimate goal is to build a successful campaign and I'm open to ideas on how to achieve this, so any advice would be very much appreciated.

Paul

yes, you can run them concurrently. i do it all the time.

from a pure statistics view, since they can have some overlap, realize that there is a difference between running them concurrently and not. it's a small difference, but if you're a classical math or stats person, just keep it in mind. I'd say run them concurrently and don't bother bracketing them over time to analyze without any potential overlap, because concurrent is likely how you'll run things as your performance progresses.

as you get more phrase and broad matching going on, build up your negative keywords.

bid marginally higher on tighter keyword matching options, highest on exact for instance. this minimizes overlap, improves ctr for your most focused keywords / match types and allows you to put forward your best performing stuff for the highest volume of your best keywords.
