Hello everyone,

This is my first post on here, although I have been a reader for some time now.

Hopefully someone can help me here.

I've set up analytics on a new account (I've used it before) and I've set up a goal, now, it's reporting the traffic and the goals/conversions. However, it's not telling me any goal information on the keywords. They are all reporting 0 statistics in the goals tab. Does anyone else have this problem or does anyone know what the problem might be?

It has been running now for 2-3 months and has plenty of data, it's just not attaching any goal conversion data to keywords.

Thanks in advance if you are of any help.

Cheers

Well, that's kind of a broad question. Is your goal a completed transaction, like a sale? Did you define the last page of the transaction as the goal, and do the goal funnel correctly? (Google's docs are a little hazy on this; I defined the goal backwards for a while before I realized how it was supposed to go)

There's complete docs here:

[google.com...]

Are you seeing no goal analytics anywhere?

Need more info (without specific urls)...

I set up my goals just a couple of months back.

I noticed the same problem with 1 of my 4 goals it doesnt associate the keyword sometimes. I had ignored it so far. I use google's conversion tracking too, combined I'm able to get the keyword data I need.

I would like an answer too, however not sure if anyone can help without first looking into the analytics account.

Hi Netmeg,

I do have a funnel set up as my process goes as following:

[Widgets.com...]

[WidgetCheckout.com...]

So, the first stage is on my own site and the second stage is on a different domain (the people who host the checkout system). Both pages have the google tracking code on them.

I am getting goals reported in google. Just nothing is associated with the keywords. My system says 8 purchases and google analytics is saying 8 purchases but none of this is associated with the keywords.

That clearer?

Ok - is Checkout the absolute last url in your process (not confirmation or thank you or whatever)?

I'm not sure what to tell you without looking at it (which of course we can't do) - I just checked five of my sites, and they're all reporting goals with the appropriate keywords.

Edit - wait, something just occurred to me. Are you going to a third party to process your order (i.e. Paypal or something like that?)

Hello Nutmeg,

Yes I am going to a third party but they have added the code to my specific checkout landing page for me. Ie the page the user gets after confirming payment details.

(netmeg)

Well I suspect that somewhere in that process, your keyword information is getting lost. I have not yet managed to get Analytics working well with third party payment processing as yet - there are filters out there for tracking all the way through Paypal and back, but they're kind of a nightmare to implement.

Ok, try this. Try setting up a goal that's NOT a sale, for something that doesn't involve leaving your site. Like for example, just the viewing of a particular page. Doesn't even need a funnel, just the goal for the page itself. Let it track for a day or two, and see if you can see keywords for THAT goal.

That might narrow down where the problem is.
