GWO can be very powerful, but there's a steep learning curve and the documentation is heavy going. Worth persevering with, though. For example, my very first test with GWO increased conversion by 10% by experimenting with different calls to action on a button.

Conversion Rate Experts' 101 Free Tips [conversion-rate-experts.com] article is great for ideas for using GWO, too.

Exactly, using A/B and multivariate testing of on-page elements (eg, testing new calls-to-action etc).

It's not as powerful as some other tools ($$$) that have been on the market for a while but it works and it can be very surprising how little variations can make a big difference in the bottom line.

For a case study, I used GWO to test different calls to action for a search button on a site: 'Go' vs 'Search'. The 'Search' text correlated with a 10% higher conversion rate.
