Qn: I have a bit confusion in Broad Match in google adwords. When
broad match applied will it search whole word in any sequence?

reply: If the keyword contains two terms, then broad match will be triggered if search query contains the terms,
their synonyms, or singular/plural forms in any order. Adwords help center explains broad matching with an example.

Qn: for example ... If i have a keyword "tennis shoes" as broad match so
will ad will be triggered on if someone searched for

3)"shoes tennis"

reply: yes

4) "tennis sneaker"

reply: yes

5)"tennis sports shoes"

reply: yes.

Thanks buddy

so you mean if someone searched for only "Tennis" or "Shoes" will not trigger my Ad if keyword in "Tennis Shoes".

... Searched Phrase must contain whole word, its synonym, singular plural but what if only one word of keyphrase has been searched like in my example if someone searched for only "Tennis" or "Shoes" will it show my AD?

Thanks
Yuvi

Well, broadmatch could be much more than this. See also the threads about "broadmatch got dangerous due to expanded match".

Careful, Yuvi...I believe there is a very good chance that your broad match keyword of 'tennis shoes' will show for the following searches:

tennis socks
tennis balls
ten shoes
tennis
sports shoes
nike tennis
tennis players
tennis equipment
tennis gear
etc. etc. etc.

I know those are ridiculous.....but so is expanded broad match.

Broad match is ok to use, but here's what I suggest: run a search query report every day or two. Find the phrases like "sports shoes" and "nike tennis," and add them as a negative word or phrase for the adgroup.

Eventually, you will have enough negatives that expanded broad match won't have many options, other than searches for tennis shoes, shoes for tennis, etc.

BDuns,

Currently I am trying to use the expanded broad match in this way. The problem with the query report is that a majority of our money is spent on 'other unique queries'. How can you know if those 'other unique queries' are relevant?

If you use broad match you need to do a little bit of keyword research to find negatives. Google does seem to do a good job of matching your sites content to searches, but if you copy your google campaign to MSN you'll need a lot more negative keywords.

Q: Does the Search Query Performance report show every single query?

A: No. A report that included every query that triggered your ads to
show is likely to be unmanageable in size and difficult to process. To
solve this problem, we've aggregated statistics for all outliers (i.e.
queries that don't meet our privacy and volume requirements) in the
'other unique queries' row. Please be assured that the vast majority
of the Search Query Performance report includes queries that led to
your ads being clicked on. These queries are significant in that they
will prove to be the most helpful in building a more effective keyword
list.

[adwords.google.com...]

Thanks, Google, for ALMOST giving us what we need. I wish I could decide for MYSELF what an unmanageable file size is.

and add them as a negative word or phrase for the adgroup.
And how do you do this if you find --tennis socks--- in the report?

-tennis socks
or
-"tennis socks"
or
-[tennis socks]

The thing I noticed is that when I have the following:

free product X
"free product X"
[free product X]

And I put --free-- as a negative word like below:

-free

The keywords containing the word --free-- will still have views and clicks. How is this possible? In other words, how should you use negative keywords or how to make sure Adwords will not ignore negative keywords?

Since the above is not the expected behaviour but could be solved by removing --free-- from the keywords (... product X) I'm wondering if Google also ignores the negative keyword when it starts to make some expanded broad match search terms by itself. What if Adwords then also ignores the negative keyword?

You might be looking at impressions and clicks from before you added the negative keywords?

Sometimes i'll add a negative, then after 4 days or so i forget when I added it...i usually look at "the last 7 days" as my time period, so I'll start freaking out when I see clicks on keywords for which I added a negative.

Just be sure that the time frame you have set does not include days before you added the negative. It should not matter if your keywords are broad, phrase or exact match - if you have a broad-match negative, it will prevent any query containing the word from triggering your ad.
