Initially i am thinking that the CTR will be lower as I surf my iphone with a serious purpose just do to speed etc. And I am way less likely to buy something as it is a pain and less secure. So lower CTR with a lower conversion are my expectations.
A general ecommerce site could benefit by doing comparison advertising, for example a shopper in Wal-Mart does a quick search on his/her phone to see if they could get a better price online.
The professional services industry could benefit from "impulse" searches. just got pulled over, do a search for traffic ticket lawyers while your ticket is being written. I wonder how long it would take to type " Mesothelioma" on an alpha-numeric keyboard?
On the spot searches for real estate information should provide an opportunity for agents to get in front of buyers at the time they are looking to buy.
just my 2 cents, ;)

FYI, as far as I can tell the ads that appear when I search Google on my iPhone are the regular ads, not mobile ads. When I go to Google.com on my Windows Mobile based PDA phone, it automatically goes to the mobile version of Google [google.com] and from there I can see the mobile ads (you can preview them here [google.com]). The iPhone doesn't redirect to the mobile Google, though. But I've tried it only with wifi, so it may be different when connected via a wireless provider.
Anyway...
I think mobile ads will be great for some verticals. Restaurants, for example, could put include a business number when creating their ads and get a call button [adwords.google.com] to make it easier for people to call and make a reservation.
