Why does Google refuse to let me delete stuff?

I am trying to delete an analytics slot I have on AdWords. The "delete" link is not a link, but a text. #*$!?

Almost same thing with the campaigns. I have tons of old campaigns that are marked "DELETED", but still SHOW! Then how are they "deleted"? More like "temporarily deactivated".

Why does Google try to embarras me by forcing me to have old ugly campaigns hanging around forever? I am strongly considering completely ceasing to use any product from Google because of their stupid ideas like this one. I thought they wanted to be "on good foot" with advertisers by giving them power. Apparently not.

It's actually a very good idea. If data was truly 'deleted', you couldn't access historic reporting for it. If you don't want to see it, select 'show only active' or 'show all but deleted' - and your problem is solved.

For the "Ended" & "Deleted" Campaigns, there is a setting to show "All", "All Active", or "All but Deleted"...

Try clicking on one of those links (All Active) to hide the Deleted and Ended campaigns. All but Deleted will show Active & Paused campaigns.

What are you talking about when you say "Analytics slot"? Do you mean Goals in Analytics? Reports in AdWords?

Well, I am aware that you can *hide* stuff, but that doesn't make them actually go away. Why am I not allowed to delete ambarrasing old campaigns? Strange to me.

Well... under the "analytics" tab, I once tested it by adding a URL. It won't go away; the "delete" link is not a link.

Because then reporting would be unavailable for these campaigns. Imagine the impact of that... all historic reports would only return stats on campaigns, ad groups, and keywords that are currently live... not those that ran at that time. It's a landslide of a trade-off.

If you want to ditch outdated and "embarrassing" campaigns that badly - open a new account.

"open a new account"

No thanks. I don't want to pay a fee and go through a lot of hassle just because Google is too incompetent to implement basic functionality.

try not doing anything embarassing in the first place, give some thought to your blaming of G for the situation.

seriously though, don't be embarassed, the distant past in your account won't harm you. it's a good reminder of how much you've grown since then.
