Ok, this is the first time this has happened to me. I have a maximum click set at .17 cents, and haven't changed it since yesterday. I pull up a report for TODAY ONLY and it shows my avg. cost per click at .37 cents and shows 48 clicks for a total of $17.71 so far today. How is this possible? Am I really going to get charged for this, or is it just a glitch that Google will catch? I have never had this happen before (to my knowledge). I copied and pasted directly from my adwords campaign. This is what it looks like.

Current maximum cost-per-click: USD $0.17    Modify Price or Keywords

Keyword Clicks Impr. CTR Avg. CPC (USD)
"xxxxx" 48 283 16.9% $0.37 $17.71

I did have a higher maximum YESTERDAY, but changed it to .17 cents before going to bed last night (around 10 pm).

It confirmed my price change right away, and still shows the updated .17 cents today. I have seen delays in reporting before, but never a delay in getting the max cpc changed. Anyone else having problems?

since posting above, it's still continuing.

Current maximum cost-per-click: USD $0.17
.........Clicks Impr. CTR Avg. CPC (USD) Cost (USD)
"xxxxxx" 57 321 17.7% $0.38 $21.44

YIKES, it's going up. Now I'm up to .38 cents average.

I also see that my ad is up top in the premium adwords slot. I normally can't get up there on this keyword unless I'm bidding at least .80 cents a click.

WEIRD!

Ok, here is a guess. Possibly the reporting is delayed, and they are still calculating with my bids from yesterday. They did update my bids on the site last night, but they haven't actually updated for calculating purposes. Possibly once they catch up with themselves, they will go back and retro. change my stats? Anyone else?

I just checked my accounts and none of them are going above the max bid. It seems like AdWords has been having a lot of reporting problems lately so this might just be another glitch they are working on. Be sure to check your billing history and make sure they credit you back for the overcharges.

4crests: If you can afford to do it, I would recommend pausing your campaigns (Just hope that "pause campaign" link works!). After that, shoot a mail immediately to Google. Nowadays, they are responding to emails within 2 hours during business hours.

Strange things seems to be happening to one of my accounts - the ads were completely stopped (not being displayed at all) yesterday. Google explained that this particular account had accrued more clicks than my daily limit during the infamous reporting delay. Hence the system was trying to "make up" by not showing the ads yesterday..

Hmm.. Funny.. anyway, the ads are now showing up now :)

DRCOOL, good to hear from you. We need to get together for that lunch sometime.

vibgyor79...
Thanks for the advice.

I see it's also happening on one of my other keywords. I think I will leave them how they are for now, but I will contact Google as you suggest. I often raise them that high anyway. But, I hate to pay it when I didn't ask for it.

Well, personally I'd leave things as they are.

Because of all the problems that Google are having with their systems we are getting Overdeliver Credits by the bucketload.

One client has had £220 in February so far, so I think it's safe to say that the errors that are being found are being rectified in your favour.

Keep screenshots of all actions you take relating to decreases/pausing, at least then if you don't see things sort themselves out in reasonable time then you have some ammunition.

But, don't go to war just yet.

I have another campaign that is set at .10 cents and is in the Premium Adwords area today. This one usually takes at least .80 cents to get up there. So, I guess I can't complain too much. I definitely don't think I will pause that one. But, I did decide to pause the other two because they were decreasing in amount, and I wanted to make sure it didn't average back down to normal before Google took a look at them.
