Local Search, Minimum Bids & Quality Score?

Issues with minimum bids, quality score and local search

Good afternoon,

After setting up a sophisticated local search AdWords campaign, I noticed that traffic had a very sharp decline. The Google traffic estimator, keyword generator and initial activity all looked healthy. Next thing I know, these geo-targeted keywords were shut off and Google is asking for $5.00 & $10.00 minimum bids.

To give you an idea as to just how non-competitive some of these words are, bids of $0.25 & $0.50 were within the top 1-5 spots prior to being shut down.

Once I reviewed the site and quality score associated with all of the limited KW's I noticed that this is a direct consequence to a "POOR" quality score. I am theorizing that this is due to the high amount of flash based content on the site combined with the lack of text.

Does anyone know of any ways around this? Aside from simply throwing text descriptions on every page?

I can understand SEO being severely effected by lack of 'spiderable' text; but for AdWords to do the same when I'm willing to pay for the traffic seems unreasonable to say the least. $10.00 minimum per click? No thanks.

How long has your campaign been up?

If your site doesn't have any text or other attributes that Google can recognize, then it's going to be pretty hard for them to give you a decent quality score.

If you would like to see what Google thinks of your landing page, use their Keyword Tool.

[adwords.google.com...]

Click on the Site-Related Keywords tab and enter the URL of your landing. It will return all of the keywords it finds. If it doesn't return the keywords you are advertising with then you might have found your problem. Then you will have to find a way to get those on the page and keep your Flash.
