In some respects, he has a point.
Is it time Google gave the whole AdWords management interface a makeover?
Is it time Google gave the whole AdWords management interface a makeover?
A very interesting question, engine, that I'm glad you asked.
I'd take the question even farther and ask what the perfect AdWords interface would look like and how it would function - given that AdWords advertisers are all over the map in terms of their experience, their sophistication about Online advertising, their goals, and so on.
I'll be interested to see where this goes. ;)

It seems folks don't think it can be improved! :O
That'll be the day!
I sometimes fear that my jumping-in on a thread like this one to say something like "I'll be interested to see where this goes", may turn out to be the kiss of death for the thread. I certainly hope that's not the case - but still I wonder. And, if that is the case, then my apologies engine!
In any case, I thought this was a great topic - and still do. A great chance for you all to say what you'd like to see, and for the AdWords folks to listen and learn about what is most wanted/needed/wished for.
I still hope this thread really takes off. If it does, I'll link to the entire thread in tomorrow's Advertiser Feedback Report, so all of your comments will be seen by a great many interested folks - all of whom have actively subscribed in order to hear this sort of real-world feedback.
So, fingers crossed. ;)

There are definitely many things in the UI that can be improved - however, what's improvement for one person is confusion for another.
Personally, I've grown to like the editor so much, I rarely deal with the direct login for larger accounts. However, with many clients, there are definitely a lot of MCC improvements (or some sort of MCC editor) that would speed up efficiency tremendously. (MCC keyword search)
Here are a couple of things that I find annoying:
In "Edit Campaign settings" under "Ad serving" you have the ability to choose either "Optimize: Show better-performing ads more often" or "Rotate: Show ads more evenly" . this gives you the ability to change the ad serving for the entire campaign, which is ok until you set up a new ad or change an old one and want to force the system to display the ads evenly. You can't have it only display one ad evenly. It is the entire campaign or nothing.
Adwords will automatically put a "Google checkout" graphic next to your ad. I would like to run two ads with the same text, one with the google checkout graphic and one without to see if there is any difference in performance. At this point it is all or nothing.
While as an advertiser on the program for so long, I love all the new functionality, I think Google needs to do something for individual advertisers who might have 0 experience in ppc.
It seems like the whole program is moving away from an advertising platform for individual advertisers to 'just another medium' for agencies.
Anyway what is fantastic is that google actually listens to its advertisers - atleast to a decent level.
I have to agree that our campaign level options - at least the most important ones, should be made into adgroup level options.
The other point I can remember is that ad scheduling while helps set different max cpcs for different times of the day, doesnt provide different daily budget option for different times of the day. While the editor is cool enough that all I have to do is just copy paste the whole campaign and schedule both to run at different times with different daily budgets, it would help if that functionality could be set into ad scheduling.
The account snapshot should let advertisers choose the tabs they would like to see graphs for.
