Hi,

I am running campaigns in Adwords for scenario described below:

I have cheap airfares which are specific to city pairs. For example

LAX-ATL
SFO-ATL
LAS-ATL

I have made 3 campaigns which are geo targeted for whole USA with keywords like:

Cheap Flight LAX to ATL
Discount Airfare from LAX to ATL

Important is “LAX to ATL” should be there in every keyword. I have used Phrase Match for these keywords.

I have 6 more campaigns which geo-targeted to specific city, for example in Los Angeles with keywords:

Cheap Flight to ATL
Discount Flight to ATL

I have used Exact Match for these keywords.

I am running these campaigns since last 2 months but getting nominal response. Even after searching and playing with these campaigns, I am not able to generate enough impressions. I want to know what I am doing wrong here. Looking for suggestions to improve these campaigns.

Thanks,
eddie

I think the obvious answer is that you're bidding on keywords that no one searches on. How many people do you know who refer to cities by their three letter airport code?

I didn't realize anyone used a search engine like Google for this information. I've always gone to the travel sites and searched for appropriate air fares and assumed just about everybody else did too.

@beesticles
Keywords which i wrote above are examples only, i have keywords like Los Angeles to Atlanta also.

I can not use only one city name in keywords because the product i have is specific to city pair.

@wrgvt

All major travel sites use PPC to get traffic, advance users may go directly to travel sites but average users do search for these in search engines.

I think you need to broaden your reach, e.g. change to broad match, expand your geo targeting areas. I know this means you'll probably buy some bad traffic, but in my experience when you launch an Adwords campaign you have to be prepared to lose some money early on while you find the good traffic.
